Mauritius is considered to have one of the world's most breathtaking coral reefs and marine life. In fact, special care is taken to preserve and protect our lagoons and marine world. As Mauritius is an island, the water is very clear and is suitable for many water sport activities. For many generations, sailors and scientists have been baffled by the mystery of coral reefs scattered across the oceans. Fun fact, sand is created by coral reefs which are broken by waves along a long period of time. Even those who don't know swimming can go for scuba diving with instructions and training given beforehand by life guards or instructors who will train you how exactly to behave under the water to avoid all kind of danger and to not cause damage to the marine life. Underwater weddings are also organised, where the couples can exchange their vows and rings.
2. Underwater Walk
For this unique sport, you don't have to be trained or learn to swim. You only need a transparent helmet and a special apparatus that will allow you to breathe normally while walking under the water. Therefore, a life guard or your instructor will accompany you to enjoy these wonderful underwater nature. Walking with your partner hand to hand on the sandy sea floor, watching a variety of fish this could be the most romantic thing to do.
3.Underwater Scooter
You can enjoy this underwater trip as a romantic date with your partner on scooter. This is an exciting experience on a underwater scooter with a transparent oxygen helmet. Different types of underwater creatures would be passing alongside just like a road full of traffic.
4. Snorkel
Mauritius is the best destination for snorkeling as the water is very clear. For this activity you only need three basic equipment, a snorkel plastic tube in which you can breath, a snorkeling mask to protect the face and diving fins which you can easily swim. You can even swim with a variety of fish and other sea creatures like dolphins and whales.
This activity is like a safari trip, where you can explore many undersea rare species at approximately 35meter under the sea. 6. Parasailing
If you want to fly like a free bird on the sky then you should definitely try the parasailing activity. It is like a parachute but attached to a speed boat that will allow you to fly on the same direction of the boat. The magic is when you are up in the sky enjoying the panoramic views of the blue turquoise lagoons and then come down under the water.
7. Kite Surf
Kite Surf is best enjoyed during the winter season from June to September in Mauritius as the weather is always windy. For this activity you need a full body wetsuit and some lessons for a few hours before you get started. During the lessons, you will learn how to control the kite and how to stretch your body or jump while surfing on the water. If ever you are not ready for this activity then you should not try just to avoid any danger.
8.Deep Sea Fishing
Deep sea fishing is one of the world's big game and the lagoon of Mauritius is considered as the best place for this game. But it depends on the weather conditions and mostly done in December, January, February and March. The fishing boat must be equipped GPS in case of danger alert and many varieties of fish can be caught very easily such as Blue Marlin(blue emperor), Dorado fish, Sailfish as these are the surface species.
9. Horse Racing
During the 19th century, there was a place in Mauritius where the French military were trained. Then later in the year 1810 during the British rule, Mauritius Turf (horse racing club)was founded to reconciliate and unite the French settlers with the English administration. The French governor Sir Robert Farquhar and his wife, Maria Latour were the sponsors of the club. Later on, Colonel Edward Draper became the "Father" of the Mauritius Turf club situated on the capital city of Mauritius, Port- Louis. It is recognised as the oldest racecourse in the Southern hemisphere and the second oldest in the world and was inaugurated on the 25th June 1812. The flag hosting ceremony of the first independence of Mauritius was held there on the 12th March 1968.
10. Quad Biking
Quad Biking is very easy to drive, you don't need any training as you only need to control the bike and drive. You can enjoy this long drive trip with your partner on double seat or alone on single seat. This bike is recommended when you are going on a safari park, going across the rivers or mountains and these quad can take you many nature places in Mauritius.
